Why Closed Doors?

Have you ever felt blindsided from a breakup, or crushed when an opportunity you thought you were perfect for goes to someone else? Whatever this closed-door may be, we are typically left without answers, wondering why this particular outcome had to happen.

I have felt this pain more in the last year than I have ever felt in my life and to be honest, I am sitting in the midst of this pain right now. Learning how to trust God, remain faithful, and live according to His will, not mine.

Although the despair and disappointment I feel are overwhelming at times, if I were to still be in that relationship, if I had gotten that research/job opportunity if I was able to go to that dream college I so desperately desired to attend, I would be living for myself and for my own will instead of living for God and His perfect will for my life.

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him”

Colossians 3:17 (NIV)

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

Taking time to reflect on biblical truth, helps your mind with staying focused on the Lord and not on your circumstances. Start replacing your “I feel…” statements with “I know…” statements.

“I feel like my life is falling apart and I will never be happy again, but I know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character; and character hope” (Romans 5:3)

“I feel like I’m alone, and no one can understand the amount of pain I am in, but I know that God will never leave nor forsake me (Hebrews 13:5). I also know that the Lord is with me wherever I go (Joshua 1:9), He is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and He is a compassionate and loving creator (Psalm 103:13).

If you are also in a waiting period right now, struggling to trust God for who He says He is, just know that you are not alone and God knows exactly how you are feeling. Lean into His word, let God take control of your life, and guide your steps. When you seek God above all else, only good can come from it.

Here are important tips to remember while you wait on God:

  1. Acknowledge that God is in control (Proverbs 19:21)
  2. Learn to trust God (Proverbs 3:5)
  3. Look to Him for strength (Psalm 46:1)
  4. Seek God through prayer (Jeremiah 29:13 & 1 Thessalonians 5:17)
  5. Be Patient and cast all your anxieties on Him (Ephesians 4:2 & 1 Peter 5:7)
